AIRES LIBRES offers us the opportunity to enjoy the redesigned resin ball canopy , the Village’s distinctive signature since 2011. Landscape architect Claude Cormier has come up with a new concept for this year’s canopy incorporating the six colours of the rainbow flag (each divided into three shades) providing 18 different tones evenly spread out over St. Catherine Street. With the arrival of the long-awaited warm weather, St. Catherine St. restaurants, cafés and bars have installed over 50 terraces along the pedestrian mall. Come and enjoy a stroll under a rainbow-like sky of 180,000 balls spanning from St. Hubert to Cartier streets until late September. Day and night, in addition to going « green », the Village is lit up. The car-free Village is lined with 150 weeping willows measuring 12 to 15 feet, another concept by Claude Cormier. Increased nighttime lighting of the rainbow ball canopy create a unique atmosphere during long summer evenings. Pedestrians are able to literally float above the canopy by walking over a new footbridge that stand near the TVA Network building. Developed by the firm Architecturama, the footbridge design is reminiscent of a suspension bridge. « Galerie Blanc » located on the corner of St. Catherine and Wolfe streets is the open sky art gallery created by Alexandre Berthiaume of Futil Design. Curator Nicolas Denicourt is back and has put together an outdoor, rain or shine, exhibition. Open day and night, « Galerie Blanc » seeks to encourage interactions between art and public.
