    Full House, april 2023

You know the drill by now! As every month, I recommend my personal overview of the songs that stand out on the house and dance music scene. As the name suggests, I share with you three new releases to discover and two hits to play again, to complete your FULL HOUSE. Enjoy!

    Three Recent Songs to Discover

Lydia Képinski and Les Louages: “J’aime quand on danse”
Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! Young Quebec singer Lydia Képinski joins forces with Lévis artist Les Louange, aka Vincent Roberge, to offer a song that makes us want to vibe cheerfully wishing it was already Friday. Its title, “J’aime quand on danse” is quite on point as that’s exactly what you’ll be doing: dancing. The Quebec music industry is traditionally very folk-oriented, so when local artists venture into dance / pop territory, we can only celebrate and shout: FINALLY! The rolling bass coupled with high-pitched percussion, disco-style pianos and sexy vocals from both artists deliver a slick result that will work well on dance floors. Well done guys, I love everything.

PNAU x Kkalid: “The Hard Way”
I talked to you about them in February, and I’m still talking about them, but what do you want, PNAU is a hit machine. We can’t help but stop and blast the volume when we hear their latest song, “The Hard Way”, which is even better than their last single. This time, it is Khalid who was selected by the Australian trio for their new piece. The singer known for his collaborations with Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes and Ed Sheeran adds his voice to the catchy electronic sounds that PNAU is now famous for. The result is a cheerful and entertaining track that you’ll find yourself humming all day. We bet that the new track will be one of the summer hits, making people groove in their cars and on the beaches

    Calvin Harris: “Miracle”
Scottish EDM superstar Calvin Harris just launched a new trance track that will appeal to fans of techno and fast rhythms. For his new single “Miracle”, the DJ and producer famous for megahits such as Summer, We Found Love (Rhianna) and One Kiss (Dua Lipa) is accompanied by British singer Ellie Goulding. The song, reminiscent of techno anthems from the late 90s and early 2000s, might give you a sudden urge to pull out your light sticks and old Oakley Twentys. The song features piano melody full of echo effects and distortion sounds worthy of Prodigy’s biggest hits. Nevertheless, the feel-good tune is catchy and will please fans of the genre.

    Two Hits to Play Again

Martial Simon: “Let’s Hear It for the Boy”
Impossible not to sing and tap your feet when you hear this house cover of Deniece Williams’ 80s hit. I first heard Martial Simon’s version of “Let’s Hear It for the Boy”on a beach in Valencia in 2022, and have been playing it on repeat ever since. Released in 2021, the song revisited by the New York DJ is just close enough to the original to please everyone, but reinvented enough to give it a very current house colour. A safe bet if you want to get your party going or just put a smile on your friends’ face.

Adri Blok, Martina Budde: “You to Me Are Everything”

Another remix of a disco hit that you won’t be able to resist playing on repeat once you hear it. This house version of the British band The Real Thing’s 1976 hit was released in 2020 by Dutch DJ Adri Blok and prominent German producer Martina Budde. “You to Me Are Everything’s” joyful melody will fill you with a feeling of lightness. However, it’s the slightly kitsch lyrics that will make you fall in love with this touching earworm: “You to me are everything, the sweetest song that I could sing, so now you’ve got the best of me, come on and take the rest of me.” I bet you can’t help but think of your boyfriend or your girlfriend when you hear this chorus!
