    Full House, may 2023

The coldness of winter is behind us and we can (FINALLY!) enjoy the warmth of the spring sun! What better way to entertain your guests during your BBQ on the patio than a good playlist? If you want to impress your friends with your musical culture, here is my personal overview of the songs that stand out in the house and dance music scene. As the name suggests, I give you here three new releases to discover and two hits to play again, to complete your FULL HOUSE. Happy 5 à 7 everyone!

    Three Recent Songs to Discover

    Jaco : Come to Daddy
The tune is great and it makes you wanna dance with somebody. And the music video is funny. And sexy. And it shows the singer dancing in a white speedo with a Quebec flag tied to his neck like a cape. For that only, you should be convinced to listen to Come to daddy, the new song by Montreal artist JACO! If you’re not in yet, we’ll give you more reasons. The hot song with catchy electro-pop sounds arrives just in time for the return of the sunny days. Rhythmic and subversive, the song plays on the theme of seduction all the while using a generous dose of self-mockery. Queer, pop, assertive and irreverent, JACO has it all. On the heels of his two other recent songs, Je rentre à la maison and MERCI, the flamboyant cherub is clearly on a roll to the top and promises to get all the attention along the way. Put on your tight speedo and turn on the volume!

    Marie-Mai : Wicked Ways
After charming us in February with Pour Toi (and the stunning continuous shot in the video that supported it!), Marie-Mai recently launched Wicked Ways, a rare English song in the repertoire of the Quebec star. For her brand-new piece, the singer-songwriter has collaborated with the Montreal duo Banx & Ranx, who has worked with Sean Paul and Dua Lipa, among others. The electro-pop song has a very catchy, almost seductive chorus that will stay in your head for a very long time (We can have fun, wicked ways we can have fun…😊). We love when local artists venture into synthpop / electro-pop territory. So, we can only congratulate Marie-Mai for her two new songs and we hope that she will inspire other local creators to dive into the world of electro!

Young Bombs avec Discrete et Alex Hosking : Bad
Vancouver duo Young Bombs recently unveiled their new single, Bad, continuing the duo’s streak of dance hits. The band released Key To My Heart last year, a dynamic song that teleports us straight to an Ibizan beach. Known for their blend of pop and electronic music, the duo has been making waves within the dance music scene, performing at major festivals including Lollapalooza and Firefly. The new piece is a colourful collaboration with Discrete and Alex Hosking, guaranteed to ignite dance floors the world over. With over 200 million streams on Spotify, Young Bombs are one of Canada’s hottest bands right now. We like them a lot!

    Two Hits to Play Again

Kate Ryan : Elle, elle l’a
Kate Ryan’s 2008 Eurodance version of France Gall’s hit Elle, elle l’a celebrates its 15th anniversary on May 9. Covering once again a song that’s famous and adored throughout the French-speaking world, the Belgian singer gave her fans a rhythmic and catchy piece peppered with well-known easy-to-sing lyrics. A perfect recipe for success, which came instantaneously, even more so with the LGBTQ+ community. Indeed, Kate Ryan had made a splash in 2002 among the community with her cover of Désenchantée, by Mylène Farmer. The singer was also a hit in 2007 with her cover of the famous Voyage Voyage by Desireless. More recently, she’s also covered Françoise Hardy’s Comment te dire adieu. For its melody that makes you want to vibe as if we were back in 2008, we strongly suggest you listen to this great Kate Ryan success again because Elle… elle l’a!

Bob Sinclar : World Hold On
This megahit that made Bob Sinclar a global superstar was released on April 17, 2006. Upon its release, World Hold On literally ignited dance floors across Europe and North America before taking the number one spot in the majority of commercial radios. The song instantly catches the attention with its chorus, which once again features the whistle that became Bob Sinclar’s trademark with Love Generation. On a powerful and punchy bass line that forces you to dance, the song features lyrics promoting love, openness and diversity. The stars were aligned to make this song the soundtrack of the summer of 2006 in all gayborhoods around the world. Montreal was no exception. From Parking to Drugstore, to Complexe Bourbon, Sky and Unity, everyone was whistling to World Hold On, celebrating the arrival of the first World Outgames in Montreal. Fun fact, the gorgeous video for the song was shot right here in our beautiful city. Fun fact number 2: a Catalan version of World Hold On was released in 2013 by none other than…Kate Ryan! All of this should give you a great story to tell while your guests bounce to your music. 😉
